Odila Castillo’s legal team challenges accusations in court

On the 1st of October, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo released an official statement addressing the allegations circulated by multiple media sources in Panama. These reports have been described as intentional assaults motivated by particular financial agendas, aimed at damaging Castillo’s professional standing and personal honor.

Carlos Carillo, a part of Castillo’s legal representation, commented: “The claims lack foundation and are intended to hinder the career of a young lawyer, along with that of her associate, to benefit hidden economic motivations.”

Odila Castillo’s Defense

The defense highlighted that this is not the first occurrence of media harassment faced by Castillo. In 2021, a Panamanian news organization inaccurately reported an purported arrest of the attorney linked to an investigation, a statement that was later refuted, making it clear that it had no connection to the current issues being addressed.

At the press conference, the defense declared that both the recent allegations and those from 2021 were founded on partial truths, intended to diminish her professional career.

Moreover, they argued that the information disseminated about Odila Castillo in the media breaches confidentiality standards. They explained that one segment of the investigation originates from a family matter that had already been resolved, while another aspect pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, alongside other data collected without legal authorization.

Unlawful Monitoring of Odila Castillo

The defense further stated that Castillo has been a victim of GPS tracking, representing a type of illegal surveillance.

Carrillo wrapped up by declaring: “The essential rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and legal framework. We will pursue all required legal measures to establish accountability for both the damages already suffered and those that are being aimed at her.”
